Águilas and Alhama de Murcia top the transparency charts in Murcia

The Dyntra “dynamic transparency rankings” have been updated and now list Águilas as the joint most transparent Town Hall in Spain, fulfilling 141 out of 159 criteria and achieving a score of 88.68 per cent.

This places the south-westernmost municipality of Murcia on a par with Vitoria and Bilbao in the Basque Country and Fuengirola in Andalucía at the top of the rankings, which take into account 573 municipalities with populations of over 15,000, and Mari Carmen Moreno, the Mayoress, highlights the work which has been put in over the last three years to go beyond the minimum legal requirements for openness in public administration.

In a different survey in 2015, she reports, the municipality scored a paltry 21.9 per cent.

The Dyntra rankings show a wide disparity in the scores achieved by other municipalities in the Region of Murcia, where the list is headed by Águilas and Alhama de Murcia (86.16 per cent) but at the other end of the scale are Archena and Fuente Álamo with just 11.95 per cent.
